MORE ABOUT ACCESSIBILITY REMODELING:
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Aging
In Place
According to a number of independent studies, the majority of older Americans prefer Aging In Place, which means living at home safely, independently, comfortably and with dignity. It has been the experience of our clients that aging in place often requires the renovation of living environments that were not designed to accommodate acute physical needs. Such renovations are the focus and specialty of Renovations for Life, LLC.
Universal Design
Design that works best for
those with physical needs can work well for people of all ages and
abilities and should not stigmatize the user. While safety and
accessibility is absolutely critical in the design, aesthetically pleasing
solutions are possible and should be sought.
Visitablity
Designing homes, living and work areas so that all have access whether living in the home, working in the space or visiting. Visitable designs include accommodations for wheelchairs and walkers such as wide doorways and hallways and low profile thresholds. It is our belief that communities that accommodate all users benefit from the diversity of the inhabitants.
